What Are Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels are a skin treatment that involves the application of a special acid that gently exfoliates dead skin layers. The proteins in your skin react to the acids, causing the skin to peel away — revealing fresh, renewed skin beneath.

Superficial Peel

Uses an alpha-hydroxy acid to penetrate the outer layer of skin. Treats mild discolorations & hyperpigmentation, leaving skin refreshed and younger-looking with less than 24 hours of downtime.

Medium Peel

Uses glycolic or a similar acid to exfoliate the surface and middle layers of skin, removing damaged cells that lead to age spots, freckles, wrinkles, and lines.

Deep Peel

Uses trichloroacetic or similar acid to penetrate below the middle layer of skin — treating severe wrinkles, freckles, age spots, acne scars, and in some cases, actinic keratosis.

  • After a superficial peel, you can return to most activities without limitations. With medium & deep peels, you may wish to postpone social activities for several days while your skin heals. It can take a week or longer to heal, and some redness and swelling is normal. After a deep peel, bandages and special ointment may be used. Our providers will recommend high-quality moisturizers and cleansers to protect your skin throughout the healing process.
